Note – this post on the Moneysavingexpert forum has been drawn to my attention. There may or may not be a problem with this product but I add it here so you are aware of it.
An OxypodTM is a nifty little award-winning device which can save energy and maintenance costs on your central heating.
Add it to your system and it will, because of its shape, remove dissolved air from the system. Apparently, tests have shown that it removes dissolved oxygen to 1-3 parts per billion. Here is how it is described on the website:
OxypodTM is a ‘de-aerator’ which removes air from water and is designed to be installed in water-based central heating & cooling systems. The heating or cooling system can be a traditional gas or oil boiler, a biomass system or a ground or air-source heat pump.
OxypodTM is egg shaped; as water passes through it and begins to spin, it cannot form a vortex because of the shape of the body. The water implodes in on its self, stripping away the surface tension. This helps in the release of dissolved air. The water is then driven downwards, where a vortex forms in the vertical pipework (300mm to 600mm) under the Oxypod™. This continues the process of removing dissolved air from the system very quickly!
Which all sounds pretty good. Also:
- It has a 40 year life expectancy
- It can be fitted in two hours
- It is suitable for all water-based heating systems
- It will reduce maintenance costs, and
- Extend your boiler and pump life
